The new school year got off to a hectic start in Debrecen on Tuesday morning, with traffic lights at several locations across the city not working before 8 a.m.
Police officers were deployed to direct traffic at the affected intersections, causing some minor disruptions as drivers struggled to adjust to the situation. It appears that many motorists in Debrecen are still not entirely comfortable interpreting police hand signals, adding to the confusion during the morning rush hour.
Several minor collisions were also reported as drivers hurried through the busy morning traffic.
One of the incidents occurred on Böszörményi út, between the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Agriculture and Menyhárt tér. Three cars collided in a turning lane, causing further disruption in the area.
Drivers are advised to approach intersections with extra caution and follow the instructions of police officers directing traffic.
