The Debrecen District Court held a preparatory hearing on September 24, 2026, in a case involving a woman who repeatedly blackmailed a man.
During the hearing, the prosecutor presented the indictment and made a sentencing recommendation in the event that the defendant confessed and waived her right to a trial. The 27-year-old woman admitted to committing the offence as charged and waived her right to a trial, which the court accepted.
The court found the defendant guilty of attempted blackmail involving a serious threat. In line with the prosecutor’s recommendation, she was sentenced to three years in prison and banned from exercising public rights for three years. The court also ordered the subsequent enforcement of a previous one-year-and-six-month prison sentence imposed by the Siklós District Court.
The victim contacted the defendant through an online messaging application with the intention of purchasing sexual services. He had found the woman’s contact details on a website created for this purpose. During their conversation, the defendant and the victim agreed on a sum of money for the sexual service. The woman requested the agreed amount as an advance payment, but after exchanging messages, the man refused to pay and blocked her.
At midnight on February 15, 2026, the woman contacted the victim by phone and threatened to shoot him in the head if he did not pay the amount she had previously demanded. In subsequent messages, the defendant repeatedly threatened to kill the man and demanded the agreed sum, saying that the matter would be forgotten and the victim would not be harmed if he paid.
The man blocked the defendant’s phone number, but the woman repeatedly attempted to contact him from new numbers. The victim eventually became too afraid to answer the calls and developed serious fear as a result of the blackmail, prompting him to report the matter to the police.
The defendant has a criminal record and had previously been convicted of a similar offence. She committed the new offence while serving the probation period of a suspended prison sentence.
The court’s judgment is not final. The defendant and her lawyer appealed for a reduced sentence, so the case will continue before the Debrecen Regional Court.
