A woman went to the Debrecen Police Department in distress on the afternoon of 26 September after her former partner allegedly followed her by car for several kilometres through the city. According to the woman, the man tried to force her off the road and repeatedly positioned his van across her path before eventually following her all the way to the police station.
Police officers arrested the man in the station’s car park and questioned him as a suspect. The investigation revealed that this was not the first time he had harassed his former partner. Since their breakup, he had allegedly repeatedly contacted and bothered the woman, and on some occasions had also followed or watched her.
Criminal proceedings have been launched against the 48-year-old local man on suspicion of harassment, disorderly conduct and endangering road traffic. Police have also issued a restraining order against him.
Police are urging victims of abuse or harassment to seek help and, in an emergency, to call the 112 emergency number immediately.
