Three athletes from FISZEJ SE Debrecen competed at the FISU World University Weightlifting Championships, held in Doha, Qatar, from September 8 to 12, 2026, after an eight-year break. All three athletes are students at the University of Debrecen and proudly represented their city.

Tamara Pósa finished an impressive fifth in the 49 kg weight category, setting a new personal best in the total at an international competition.

Her results:

  • Snatch: 58 kg
  • Clean and jerk: 75 kg
  • Total: 133 kg

On the second day of the FISU World University Weightlifting Championships, Karina Kecskés competed confidently in the 57 kg weight category. She completed all six attempts successfully and, with a flawless performance, finished an excellent fifth in both lifts and in the overall standings. She remained focused, disciplined and confident throughout the competition.

Her results:

  • Snatch: 71 kg
  • Clean and jerk: 91 kg
  • Total: 162 kg

After the competition, Karina told her coach simply: “I haven’t competed this well in a long time.”

Ábel Kovács competed in the first World Championship of his career in Doha, taking part in the World University Championships, where he finished seventh. This is an impressive result in itself, but even more encouraging was the way Ábel competed. He lifted 122 kg in the snatch and 147 kg in the clean and jerk, setting a new personal best in the latter. Experiences like this can be extremely valuable in an athlete’s career, especially at their first World Championship.

The Hungarian women’s team also deserves congratulations, finishing an impressive fourth among athletes from 21 countries. Two of the six members of the Hungarian women’s team are from Debrecen.

“As a coach, I could not wish for anything more,”

said Zoltán Kecskés, who once again expressed his thanks to national team head coach Gergely Pálinkás for the opportunity to compete, as well as to the sponsors who believed in the three Debrecen university athletes and contributed to their success.
