The Ambassador of Latvia visited Debrecen

Veronika Erte, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Latvia took a visit in Debrecen on 17th of November. She met with the representatives of the City and the University.

Veronika Erte was nominated to ambassador of Latvia in February 2008, yet she came to Debrecen for the very first time on the 17th of November.

In the morning she visited the University. The diplomat is strongly attached to higher education, she was teaching medical latin earlier at the University of Riga.
The ambassador had a meeting with László Csernoch, dean of the General Medicine Faculty, and they discussed the current situation of medical training and a possible collaboration. Following this, she visited the Center of Arts, Humanities and Sciences, where István Fábián vice-rector and Péter Pelyvás vice-dean welcomed her. They talked about the results and experiences of the Bologna system in Hungary and Latvia as well. Ms Erte was also interested in the situation of Russian language teaching in Hungary.
In the afternoon Mr Erte had a meeting with Zoltan Pajna, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs in the Old Town Hall. During the nearly one-hour meeting tourism cooperation opportunities and cultural issues have been discussed.
Veronika Erte also found time to meet with the latvian Erasmus and medical students studying in Debrecen.
