From 11th to 13th of December 40 traditional nativity groups will be on the stage in Debrecen. Today the event will start at 17.30 in the Kossuth square. Groups from Derecske, Sáránd, W?gajti from Poland will play. Folksong singers Ildikó Bárdosi and Mátyás Péntek will participate as well. The show will continue tomorrow in the Downtown Community House.
The celebration of the Nativity in this way is a Hungarian traditionin the Carpathian Basin.
This year, five countries – Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, and Serbia – 40 traditionalist group were invited to the meeting anda total of more than 600 people will bepresent.
The nativity groups show their best at theKossuth Square, in the Downtown Community House, at the city’s advent events, incultural, educational, social institutions and in churches.
This event is organisedby theDebrecen Cultural Center, theHungarian Institute for Culture and Fine Arts, theIntermedia Department, and the Csokonai Theater. It is hosted by the city of Debrecen since 2006.
