On her first official visit to UD on April 13, Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis, US ambassador to Hungary, met students and members of the management.
The former businesswoman arrived in Hungary three months ago as the ambassador of the United States of America. Tsakopoulos Kounalakis was joined on her visit by her husband, two sons, and cultural attaché John Balian. The delegation was received by director of external relations Gábor Turi, university ambassador Zoltán Abádi Nagy, and rector László Fésüs. After a short visit to the Rector’s Office, the ambassador was met by head of North American Department Tibor Glant. She delivered a short lecture on US foreign policy to students of the department, followed by a question-answer session.
The official programme was concluded by a lunch with rector-to-be István Fábián. The Hungarian general elections, the situation of gypsies, the role of Jobbik were touched upon during the lunch just as well as student exchanges between the two countries.
The ambassador expressed her hope to return to the city in the future.
