Debrecen Court of Appeal discussed the case of an international drug smuggling gang at the end of April 2010. The accused persons smuggled 41 kg s of cocaine from South America to Western Europe.
The second accused, anigerian man was convicted of drug-related issue earlier so he was sentenced for eight years in prison, five million forint confiscation and banned for ten years to enter the territory of the
Republic of Hungary.
His former spouse, the prime accused got a twelve years prison sentence and a confiscation of five million forints. She was 6 month pregnant when she smuggled cocaine in her stomach.
Her 80 years old grandmother is among the accused. She smuggled drugs fixed on her back to Europe. The elderly woman receiveda two years prison sentence but it was suspended for a two year trial period.
Borsod Abauj County Courtsentenced the group last June in total of 56 years in prison, 8 years suspended prison sentence and imposed 31 million forints confiscation.
The trial continues on 27 May 2010 in Debrecen Court of Appeal.
