This year the General Assembly will hand over the Csokonai, Alfred Hajos and Hatvani Awards during the 1956 remembrance. Most of the shops will be closed on October 23.

the 1956 remembrance.
Commemoration series organized by the mayor’s office of Debrecen. On Saturday they celebrate the 54th anniversary of the 1956`s Revolution and freedom fight and the 21st anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Hungary.
The ceremony will begin in the morning in Bem Square, where military units honors raising the national flag.
After that at 9am at the Memorial in front of the University Temple MP Laszlo Posan will held a ceremonial speech, then they wreathing it and as a closing act high school students from Endre Ady High School
will perform a show with the title "You should not forget".
The city`s General Assembly will hand over the Csokonai, Hatvani and Alfred Hajós awards late morning at the Old Town Hall.
In the afternoon several points of the city will have Wreathing (14:30: at the memorial plaque of the victims killed by AVH, 15:00: at the memorial plaque of Imre Nagy martyr Prime Minister, 15:30: Jozsef Szilagyi`s plaque. From 7pm the 60 years old Debrecen Folk Ensemble closes the remembrance day with a festival gala event in the Fonix Hall.
