Traditional Hungarian Christmas Nativity infested the city over the weekend. 500 members of 35 groups revived a tradition of the Christmas folk tradition. They chanted, played and praised Jesus.
Chanting arrived Friday night in Kossuth Square on their twentieth annual meeting. Their meeting was first organized in 1991.
They gathered in Kecskemet and later in Budapest but since 2006 Debrecen hosts the event.
This year groups arrived from Transylvania, Slovakia and also from the Southern Region /Croatia, Serbia. This meeting of the Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin kept the traditions of the Nativity -said deputy mayor Bela Somogyi.
According to the folklore of the Nativity, they are walking from house to house in teams presented their program. After their show and chanting the people offered them cakes and drinks.The participants revived this custom on Friday night in Kossuth square.
