Anyone who gets caught while smoking on a train by the inspectors of MÁV and the ÁNTSZ might get a double fine.
The ÁNTSZ (National Public Health and Medical Services), the MÁV and the police cooperates in checking compliance with smoking bans and in raising awareness of the restrictions that will come to effect on 1 January 2012. On most of the MÁV-Start Zrt. trains smoking is prohibited. In case a conductor catches a passenger smoking, they can impose an 8000 HUF fine on the person. If a public health inspector is also present, the passenger might get a health protection fine as well. The spot fine might amount to 30.000 HUF.
