These weeks see the disintegration of Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP). The former prime minister, Ferenc Gyurcsany is founding a new party called Democratic Coalition. His followers are leaving the socialist party to become a member of the new one.
Gyurcsany has also visited Debrecen to recruit members for the Democratic Coalition. He surely has one follower here: Zsolt Zsiros, the leader of the socialist fraction in the local government of Debrecen.
The body held a general assembly yesterday, where the position of Zsiros turned out to be unclear: he defines himself as the socialist group leader, though he is not a member of the socialist party.
According to the official standpoint of the MSZP, they will decide on the person of the new group leader after the evaluation of this year’s work.
