The third day of the swimming championship brought great success for Hungarian swimmers. We are proud! 🙂 Read Wednesday’s summary (provided by musz.hu).
Hungarian and German swimmers marked the third day at the 31st LEN European Swimming Championships in Debrecen by winning four medals each.
For the hosts, Laszlo Cseh triumphed in the 200m individual medley clocking 1:56.66 minutes cheered on loudly by his fans, Gergo Kis (14:58.15min) and Gergely Gyurta (15:04.38) won silver and bronze in the men’s 1500m freestyle behind Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri (14:48.92). Dominik Kozma earned the fourth Hungarian medal, a bronze in the men’s 200m free (1:47.72). World Record holder Paul Biedermann was never really challenged in the 200m free and defended his 2010 European title successfully in 1:46.27 minutes.
Sarah Poewe added the second German gold medal of the day winning the women’s 100m breaststroke in 1:07.33 minutes. 2006 European Champion Britta Steffen (54.15sec) and Daniela Schreiber (54.41) were silver and bronze in the 100m freestyle behind Sweden’s Sarah Sjoestroem (53.61).
Germany extended its lead in the Debrecen medal table with the two gold medals to a total of 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze, followed by Hungary (2-3-2). Sweden and France share third position with 2 gold and 2 silver medals each.
