“We should go to Debrecen, and eat turkey cock” – (Hungarian folk song)
The first Turkey Days was organized in the city centre of Debrecen in 2003. This week-end programme has become the biggest gastronomic event of the “cívis” city and the region. Year by year, tens of thousands of people participate in this colourful two-day programme at Kossuth Square and the city center pedestrian streets. Apart from the culinary pleasures, classical and pop music concerts, gypsy music, street and puppet theatre, children’s’ programmes, folk art and craftsmen’s fairs are all waiting for the visitors. A special event is the passing out of the Wine Knights in the Big Reformed Church. Several sides of gastronomy will be demonstrated from the amateur to the professional. A pleasing event of the Turkey Days is the Waiter Running competition where waiters with beer jars on trays will take the challenge.
