Debrecen-Dortmund flights didn’t meet the expectations, so you can’t book tickets for it from September. The company works on the launching of a new flight – according to the dehir.hu.
Dortmund is an important commercial and industrial centre and all the aeroplanes fly with high occupancy to this region every time, so Wizz Air had serious plans in connection with this German city. The society announced in February that they would launch scheduled flights two times a week from late April from the Airport Debrecen to the Dortmund.
The reason of the introduction of this new route is the replacement of the cancelled flights to Milan. On 16 December Wizz Air introduced the flight to the Italian city but only a few reservations arrived for this flight after the holidays so it has been cancelled. The first plane to Dortmund took off on 26 April.
The flight doesn’t seem to be successful therefore Wizz Air doesn’t run more planes on this route after three months operation. This means that tickets can’t be booked for September and the last flight for which you can book a ticket takes off on 23 August and lands on 30 August in Debrecen. 30 thousands of passengers has been expected on this route but in a few months it has been proved that this expectation will not be met. Tamara Mshvenieradze, the employee of the company confirmed that Wizz Air would cancel the flights because of low occupancy. Currently, the society is trying to find an appropriate alternative flight which can be already launched from September. However, for now they don’t know which place is the best choice.
Flights to London, launched a year ago, and to Eindhoven, introduced in last December, are very popular. Until May, passenger traffic of Airport Debrecen reached 50 thousands and this year the airport wants to increase this number over 100 thousands.
