The World Hemophilia Day is an international observance held on 17 April by the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH).

17 April is an awareness day for hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. The world day was started in 1989 since then it is held annually.

Hemophilia is a group of hereditary genetic disorders that impair the body’s ability to control blood clotting or coagulation, which is used to stop bleeding when a blood vessel is broken. Hemophilia A is the most common form of the disorder, present in about 1 in 5,000 – 10,000 male births. Hemophilia B occurs in around 1 in about 20,000 – 34,000 male births.

There are 19 hemophilia centers in Hungary, however most of them are functioning as facilities for selling medication without any specialists. Gábor Varga, president of the Hungarian Hemophilia Association says that professional teams are needed in which orthopedists, dentists-operative dentists, hepatologists, infectologists and psychiatrists are working.
