The Hungarian Patchwork Manufacture organizes an exhibition, the Debrecen, Flower City at the Debrecen Kölcsey Convention Center.
The history of patchwork – piecing small pieces of fabric together to create a larger piece, quilting layers of textile together – goes back to the ancient Egypt and to the ancient China. In the early Middle Ages, layers of quilted fabric were used in the construction of armor. In the 21st century, during the Great Depression, patchwork enjoyed its revival in the United States of America; since then it is very popular throughout the world.
The Hungarian Patchwork Manufacture was established in 1989 in Debrecen. Today the manufacture has more than a hundred members and it is acknowledged worldwide. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, various works of arts are displayed for the public between 6 and 24 August 2014.
The entrance is free!
