During the chase, the suspect jumped out of the stolen tractor and tried to run away from the police.
A man called the police on 27 August 2016 that an unknown man stole his tractor from his farm. After the call the police went to the crime scene. The owner told the police that the tractor thief went towards Nyírmártonfalva.
The police managed to catch up with the tractor near Debrecen-Haláp. As the perpetrator saw the police, he jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away; soon, he was caught.
The 31-year-old Péter H. was taken to the police station where he was interrogated. During the interrogation it turned out, that Péter H. was working with another man, the 52-year-old Sándor Sz. Their plan was the following: Péter H. should have left the tractor in an abandoned farm for Sándor Sz., who was supposed to sell it. The 52-year-old man was also taken to the police station.
A third man, the 29-year-old Tibor Sz. was also involved in the case; he helped to steal Péter H. the tractor.
Procedures were initiated against all the three men on reasonable suspicion of theft.
