Nagyerdei Stadium will be full. 85% of the tickets are already sold for the stadium show of the University of Debrecen kicking off the academic year. The organisers recommend using public transit for easy access and early arrival to quickly get in on 27 September.
17,000 tickets have already been sold, so it is almost certain that the guests of the University of Debrecen will once again fill up Nagyerdei Stadium, with twenty thousand seats, to its full capacity. On the basis of the experiences of last year’s event, the organisers now pay special attention to the needs of this large number of people: the Debrecen Transport Company will run a more frequent service of the trams, as well as bus lines 22 and 24 from 5 p.m., before the start, as well as and until 11 p.m., after the end of the event.
It is suggested that those who still decide to drive park their vehicles at some distance, perhaps on the campus, since parking spaces closer by are limited in numbers. In order to reduce congestion, police officers will also direct traffic from Egyetem sugárút (University Avenue). All gates of the stadium will be open, so it is worth choosing the one closest to the sector shown on the ticket. Those who arrive with packages should expect to get in slower, because the organisers will pay special attention to safety and compliance with the regulations. Visitors without bags or backpacks, however, will be able to get in quickly.
It is worth leaving for yoUDay early for several reasons: in addition to avoiding traffic jams and long lines, those arriving early can also enjoy a series of warm-up programmes, starting around 5 p.m. Before the official opening of yoUDay, a marching band and dancers, as well as artists from the Grand Circus of Budapest will entertain visitors outside the stadium. After the gate opening scheduled for 6:15 p.m., the warming up will continue in the stadium, including the bleachers, with the participation of a big band counting 200 wind musicians specifically put together for this event, the band “Abrakazabra”, and a “kiss cam”.
The spectacular show starting just after 7 p.m. promises some unique elements: for the first time ever, the bands Halott Pénz and Tankcsapda will perform in Nagyerdei Stadium. Ildikó Keresztes, Csaba Vastag and Gábor “Biga” Heinz will also be among the artists on the stage. Two thousand freshers of the university prepare with a flashmob, while the DEAC will participate with almost five hundred athletes at yoUDay, which will end – like last year – with a spectacular laser show and fireworks. The director of the two-hour programme is Tamás Olt, the Hungarian National Theatre’s actor, writer and director.
The University of Debrecen will also welcome a group of 120 disadvantageous children, free of charge, from the Bihar Association of Children in State Foster Care, from the Hajdú-Bihar County Children’s Protection Services, and from the “Szitakötő” (Dragonfly) Special School. Tickets are available for 390 forints for students and employees of the university and for 3,900 forints for external guests. The university will use the proceeds of the event for a good cause, as it will benefit the practicing schools of the university and healthcare institutions. The costs of yoUDay are over 40 million forints, which is paid by the university from its own revenues.
