French weekly paper L’Express found Viktor Orbán’s CV and cover letter he applied with for Soros scholarship 30 years ago.In 1988, after his university graduation, the 25-year-old Viktor Orbán applied for a Soros scholarship, he wanted to study political science at Oxford. L’Express managed to gather his CV and cover letter he handed in when applying for the scholarship 30 years ago.
Viktor Orbán wrote in his cover letter in 1988 that “civil society becomes a major element of the transition from dictatorship to democracy”.
Eventually, Orbán got the scholarship and he spent 9 months in Oxford.
