Black market sales accounted for about 6.5 percent of Hungary’s cigarette market last year, well under the 8.6 percent rate for the European Union as a whole, data compiled by consultancy KMPG cited by the National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV) show, business daily Világgazdaság said.
Illegal cigarette sales in Hungary cost the state about 23 billion forints (EUR 70m) in lost revenue from VAT and excise tax last year, NAV told the paper.
