Observed on October 4, the feast day of animal patron saint Francis of Assisi, World Animal Day is dedicated to promoting the rights and welfare of all animals. For this special occasion, the Debrecen Zoo has a week-long program of thematic activities, animal shows, and ticket concessions for kindergarten and school groups since they believe World Animal Day should be a key day for environmental education.
Running from September 30 to October 6, World Animal Week will be featuring zooeducation activities that provide both students and teachers with the opportunity to connect with animals and learn more about them in a fun and interactive way. Since the Debrecen Zoo favors a holistic view of the animal kingdom, not only will their zooeducator and animal keepers discuss various exotic animals, but they will also provide an introduction to responsible pet ownership and care.
As a culmination to World Animal Week, on October 5 and 6 they will be hosting various guest performers and organizations for a wild weekend packed full of arts and crafts activities, education sessions, animal encounters, and more!
Between September 30 and October 6, Zoo passes (including all special shows and activities) will be available at a discounted price of 600 HUF per person for all kindergarten and school groups. Adults accompanying groups of over 10 will also receive a discount, with free entry granted to one per group and passes for 600 HUF to the others.
