It was 75 years ago, on 9 May 1945 that World War II ended on European battlefields.
On this occasion, István Puskás, Vice Mayor of Debrecen responsible for cultural affairs placed a wreath at the World War memorial in Medgyessy Promenade, as well as at the monuments of the Russian heroic dead in the Public Cemetery and of the Romanian heroic dead in Bocskai Square. The wreath-laying ceremony held in the Public Cemetery was attended by Igor Zuev, Attaché of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Debrecen. Balázs Szloszjár Brigadier General, Commander of the Hungarian Army’s 5th Bocskai István Infantry also placed wreaths of honour at the events held in Medgyessy Promenade and in the Public Cemetery.
