A Romanian-Hungarian project won support from the European Regional Development Fund. Debrecen is also a member of the winner project – announced Mayor László Papp. Therefore, the city can devote 333 million HUF to the development of community transport.
The amount mentioned will be spent on four new Mercedes buses, two larger and two smaller ones – so-called midi buses –, which will be manufactured in the local bus factory of Inter Traction Electrics Kft. These vehicles will be mounted on Mercedes-chassis and will be developed locally. The contract for manufacturing these vehicles was signed by Attila Nagy, CEO of DKV Debreceni Közlekedési Zrt. and by Ferenc Baranyai, Managing Director of Inter Traction Electrics Kft., on 7 September 2020. Of the grant received, three ’smart’ stops will also be constructed, which will provide real-time passenger information, and various tickets will be available for purchase without cash. László Papp added that part of the financial resource would be used for renewing the passenger information system.
