The increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus doesn’t appear to be exponential; although the daily increase is persistently high, “plateauing” will hopefully occur, the national chief medical officer told public media on Sunday.
Cecília Müller emphasized the need to be patient, even though there is already a lot to handle, making it increasingly difficult to accept the situation, and follow the rules.
The results will be published three to four weeks after the introduction of the measures, and in the case of deaths, this period may be even longer. It is only in the third to fourth weeks after the reduction in the number of infections that the number of deaths is expected to improve, she added.
The government will make a decision on Christmas rules on Monday, the national chief medical officer said, highlighting:
the country is going in a very bad direction because of crowded shopping malls.
It is natural that people want to give gifts to their loved ones, but it’s better to do so with discipline and attention to others because this is how health can be preserved, she said.
She stressed that in the current period, the population is asking whether they will be able to celebrate with their families. Whenever possible, make your purchases online for everyone, and if someone still has go to the store, do so purposefully, spending as little time as possible in the store, wearing a mask and using hand sanitizer.
Cecília Müller also points out that it is a good idea to help those in quarantine, whether by giving them food or just inquiring about them over the phone.
The national chief medical officer has indicated that more people will be tested from Monday: they will also involve civil servants who deal directly with customers. This sampling will be free and voluntary, those who are concerned should take the opportunity to be tested. The results will be reported weekly, she said.
