The opposition Democratic Coalition has set up a working team to help local governments directly apply for European Union funding, without the involvement of the central government, party MEP Klára Dobrev said.
DK promised to offer its help as early as during last year’s EP election campaign and the party’s working team dubbed Direct Europe will start assisting local governments starting in January, Dobrev told an online press conference on Facebook. She said their help was needed because many local governments wanted to stay in “a safe distance” from the “central government’s sticky fingers”.
Head of the working team Sándor Rónai, another DK MEP, said that local governments and civil organisations will be assisted in planning, as well as preparing and submitting the bids. He added that the initiative had already attracted much interest from dozens of local governments and civil organisations.
