The mills will have to raise the price of flour in January, otherwise, they will not be able to operate – said Zoltán Lakatos, President and CEO of Hajdú Gabona Zrt., to the World Economy.
Zoltán Lakatos told VG that the price of a ton of good quality wheat is already higher than 66 thousand forints, but the current flour mills cover only 56 thousand forints of wheat. Since bread has been more expensive for months, mills are forced to raise prices by 7 to 10 percent.
The cost of producing flour shows 75-80 of the purchase price of wheat. Without a price increase, the industry would not be able to withstand this year, and if wheat continues to rise in price, another flour increase could follow around April.
The planned increase in the transfer prices of the milling industry does not exceed HUF 6-7 per kilogram, of course in consumer prices this will be a greater burden – said Zoltán Lakatos.
