The infrastructure renovation of the almost 40-year-old building of the Thomas Mann Street Elderly Club in Debrecen has started in the caring city program, the mayor of the Hajdú-Bihar county announced at a press conference on the spot on Wednesday.
László Papp pointed out that no substantial development has taken place in the home built in 1982 for the daycare of the elderly.
He added that in the largest nursing home in the city – Pallagi út – tens of millions of forints are being developed every year, but it is equally important for them to expand the services of smaller homes and to improve the supply conditions.
The local government will modernize the daycare department of the Thomas Mann Street Elderly Care Center with almost HUF 100 million from its own resources, László Papp indicated.
Lajos Kósa, the Member of Parliament for the region, emphasized that after the renovation, they could provide 21st-century care for the elderly.
“For Fidesz, which runs the city, it is not only large investments such as the BMW car plant, the national vaccine plant under construction, or the Chinese battery plant that are important,” they are constantly paying attention to smaller developments
– said the pro-government politician, listing the green city program, the modernization of the social welfare system, and the local social catering, which he thinks is exemplary in Hungary as well.
Municipal representative Levente Fodor said that after the renovation, the services of the seniors’ club, which will include meals, home help and daycare, will be expanded.
After a nine-month renovation, the Thomas Mann Street Elderly Club will also be one of the city’s 55 55 food sharing points, where after registration, those in need in the area will be able to get a bowl of hot food for free every day, the MP said.
