This New Year has also seen new arrivals at our zoo every week. This time around, we have some splendid news involving our Hungarian grey cattle as one of our Hungarian grey cows gave birth to a healthy offspring on January 19 after about 9.5 months of gestation.
The lively little male calf is increasingly curious but still needs a lot of rest by his caring mother’s side. Despite the breed name, Hungarian grey calves are born with a reddish color, turning grey in a couple months. We hope that you will still be able to check out our newborn in his red coat after we reopen.
It is a key part of our mission to try and conserve species and breeds native to Hungary, including the culturally and economically significant Hungarian grey cattle, a major landmark species of the Great Plain region with its iconic looks and history of several centuries.
Like a number of our other residents, the little male calf is yet to be adopted. If you want to make her really happy while also offering us tremendous help, please consider becoming a zoo foster parent. Further info at:
