The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges against a man who, during overtaking
– due to his inexperience – crashed into a car, leaving his fellow passenger seriously injured.
On March 23, 2019, at 9 o’clock, the man with a one-month driver’s license drove from Hajdúhadház to Debrecen on the main road No. 4 by car, with the victim sitting next to him. Both the accused and the victim used their seat belts.
Under ideal weather and visibility conditions, the defendant wanted to overtake a truck in front of him whose driver was clearly using a turn signal and was constantly reducing his speed. However, due to his high degree of inattention, the man noticed all this late, during the overtaking he did not keep enough side distance next to the turning truck, so he collided with the rear of it at a very high speed.
As a result of the accident, the defendant’s fellow passenger suffered multiple fracture injuries that healed beyond 8 days, some of which left a permanent disability behind.
The case was investigated by the Debrecen Police Headquarters.
The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office has indicted the Debrecen District Court for the offense of negligently causing a road accident that caused a permanent disability to a defendant currently living abroad. In the indictment, the district prosecutor’s office requested that the district court conduct the proceedings in the absence of the accused and impose a suspended prison sentence on him, and prohibit him from driving road vehicles for a specified period of time.
