A government official, commenting on an Advocate General of the European Court’s opinion concerning language interpretation in court proceedings and issues related to salaries in Hungary’s justice system, blamed the “hysterical left wing” and “Soros organisations” for attempting to bring the country’s judicial system into disrepute.
Estonian Advocate General Priit Pikamae of the Court of Justice of the European Union said in a non-binding opinion on Thursday that Hungarian regulations on language interpretation in criminal proceedings should not be examined by the CJEU, Ministry of Justice parliamentary secretary of state Pál Völner noted in a statement. According to Völner, the CJEU official “also agreed with the Hungarian government” that the court should not examine issues raised in connection with judicial independence, neither should it examine questions concerning the appointment of the judges, their salaries or the disciplinary proceedings.
