The 14 defendants sentenced to imprisonment for drug trafficking and possession were not finalized by the Debrecen Tribunal, a spokesman for the court said. According to Dénes Dobó, with one exception, the defendants traded in drugs to cover their livelihoods and ensure a better standard of living. Several got to know each other during their previous prison sentences; they were inmates, others were neighbors or even co-workers. Eight defendants were sentenced to serve their sentences, and for the others, the sentence was suspended by the court for probation, he added. According to the facts, the defendants traded mainly in marijuana, but also sold speed and ecstasy, and police searched for cocaine in several places.
The defendants distributed the drug to friends, colleagues, former schoolmates and acquaintances. The drug changed hands in nightclubs, store car parks, downtown Debrecen or just around the Big Forest. Between the fall of 2016 and the spring of 2017, investigators carried out several actions against members of the organization, for example, in one house search, 311 tablets were seized. The two defendants were just about to buy and sell the drug at the Apafai gas station on September 26, 2016, when police got them.
The judgment of the Debrecen General Court is not final, in view of the announced appeals, the case will continue at the Debrecen Judgment Board – Dénes Dobó indicated.
