The Hajdú-Bihar County Attorney General’s Office has indicted a woman and her mother who grew drugs at home for a more severely punishable case of drug possession.
The 40-year-old accused lived in Budapest in the autumn of 2018, but her mother spent part of the week in a house in Püspökladány. The younger defendant regularly helped her mother because of her deteriorating health and was also involved in the family business.
In the autumn of 2018, the younger defendant bought cannabis seedlings from an unknown source in Budapest, as well as equipment for growing and cultivating the plant, which she delivered to her mother’s family home in Püspökladány.
The defendants began growing cannabis plants, the propagated plants were first grown in a foil tent set up in the house and then planted in the garden after sprouting. The older defendant was responsible for handling the film tents and caring for the plants. The defendants harvested the inflorescence and leaves needed to produce marijuana from the plants at least three times.
On October 18, 2019, the police conducted a search of the defendants’ house in Püspökladány, during which illegal plants were seized from the garden and various rooms of the residential building, as well as from the younger defendant’s apartment in Budapest.
The Hajdú-Bihar County Attorney General’s Office brought charges against the accused for possession of a particularly significant amount of drugs as a co-perpetrator at the Debrecen General Court. In the indictment, the Prosecutor General’s Office requested that the tribunal sentence the younger defendant to prison and his mother to imprisonment, and to confiscate the seized plants and equipment. The Prosecutor General’s Office also proposed in the indictment the specific amount of the sentence in the event that the accused confess to their deed at a preparatory hearing of the tribunal and waive their right to a trial.
