Sleeping Tree in Full Bloom

Culture Local News

Found from Iran all the way to the Far East, the Persian silk tree (Albizia julibrissin) has multiple common names in Japanese that translate to “sleeping tree,” referring to the fact that the leaves close up at night. Made up of tuft-like clusters of purplish pink stamens, the flowers bloom from June to September, offering both a pleasant sight for us and excellent pasturage for pollinators for the long term.

Come check out our sleeping tree by the Giraffe House.
