The development of the Hungarian and Debrecen economies could not be stopped or even slowed down by COVID-19.
Hungary has provided a successful economic policy response to the difficulties caused by the pandemic. That is why we can see the current huge investment record, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said in Debrecen.
The minister pointed out that HUF 1,700 billion worth of investments are now being made in Hungary, and the economy has grown by 18 percent in the last quarter. Debrecen plays its part in this success story.
The professional attitude of the city management, the infrastructural and logistical facilities, the 30,000 students of the university, 8,800 of them studying technical and mathematical engineering, are essential factors thanks to which significant investments will arrive in Debrecen in the coming weeks and months as well, Péter Szijjártó declared.
The investments will, however, also increase the available workforce. The representatives of the city’s largest industrial companies and investors, the leaders of the University of Debrecen, and the management of the local Vocational Training Center had a meeting to reconcile the needs of the economy with the development of vocational training and education.
Debrecen’s mayor, László Papp emphasized that Debrecen is highly credible and competitive in international investment circles.
From the economic development point of view, Debrecen has had a truly fantastic series of successes in the last 5-6 years. It is crucial for us that the educational development processes follow this dynamic, Mayor László Papp said.
The challenges and opportunities in the education strategy were reviewed today with company leaders and representatives from the university and the vocational training center. The parties agreed to meet to coordinate the city’s support effort to supply effective workforce training and recruitment processes.
Minister Szijjártó also visited the Hajdú-Bihar County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he talked about the current foreign and economic issues at the Entrepreneurship Forum. The event also focused on how to increase the competitiveness of Hungarian companies.
Szijjártó spoke about the possibilities of practical cooperation with multinational companies and about increasing the export capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises and supporting them. Today, Debrecen is one of the strongholds of economic development in Hungary, he stressed at the event.
