Tourism faced problems in Hajdúszoboszló in 2021, – the mayor of the spa town said at a press conference evaluating this year’s tourist season.
Gyula Czeglédi, the independent mayor of Hajdúszoboszló, said, “Compared to 2020, the number of guest nights spent in the city has almost exploded this year”.
In the high season from May to August, the increase is almost 30 percent compared to last year: 516,000 guest nights were registered, he said. He added that the Debrecen-Hajdúszoboszló-Hortobágy Lake Tisza tourist area also performed well: in the same period, the number of guest nights slightly exceeded one million, which is an increase of 25 percent compared to the national average.
Gyula Czeglédi called it particularly good news that in August the hotels in Hajdúszoboszló approached the guest turnover of the record year of 2019: 105 thousand guest nights were registered this year, and 118 thousand in 2019.
However, he considered it important to note that one of the largest hotels in the city, Hotel Béke, has not operated in the last two years, and in terms of annual turnover of 12,000, this year’s figures are virtually the same as 2019.
According to the data of September, which has not been finalized yet, 92 thousand guest nights have been registered in Hajdúszoboszló, and after full processing, they may exceed 95 thousand guest nights in 2019, said Gyula Czeglédi.
According to Gyula Czeglédi, significant renovations are still taking place in the city: the King Matthias Promenade will be completely renewed next September, and a 21st century hotel line will be established, as well as the construction of a multifunctional event center.
The mayor also told MTI that the companies in Hajdúszoboszló had an outstanding performance in the Kisfaludy programme’s tender for the development of private and other accommodation: 750 won nearly HUF 2.5 billion in support, which is more than 2,500 rooms, including 5,700 made or allows the renewal of space.
