From the eternal candle of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the flames of the scouts of the 43rd Phoenix Scout Team were brought from Vienna to Debrecen and passed on to Mayor László Papp and representatives of the Christian communities in Debrecen on 12 December 2021.
Mayor László Papp said at the ceremony: how good it would be to celebrate so that we can take care of all the worries of the world and focus only on the birth of little Jesus, our family members, our loved ones and our fellowship with them. He then added that as we approach Christmas, I wish everyone a chance to put aside worries, troubles and prepare for the holiday by admiring the flames of Bethlehem.
Now, for two years now, we have been living our daily lives in the shadow of the coronavirus epidemic. There are many who have fallen victims to the epidemic or who have gone through the disease and recovered happily from it. Light up this flame for them too and send a message that there is hope that we will leave this difficult period behind in 2022 and that we will be living next Christmas so that this trouble, this problem, this difficulty does not overshadow it. preparing for Christmas
– the mayor said.
The flame of Bethlehem, which symbolizes love and peace, has been coming to the county seat since 2003 thanks to the Scouts, and the denominations also reach the homes of thousands of families in Debrecen.
The flame coming from the place of Jesus’ birth is traditionally part of the Advent in Debrecen.
