Another Hospital Fire in Romania, More Than 300 Patients Had to Be Evacuated

A fire broke out on Thursday in the obstetrics and gynecology department of Suceava County Hospital. Patients had to be evacuated from several floors of the health care institution.

 

According to the available information, the flames erupted on the fourth floor of the hospital, in one of the wards of the obstetrics and gynecology department. The fire covered about 20 square meters and spread a huge amount of smoke.

After receiving the alarm, all units of the Suceava Fire Department hurried to the scene.

A total of 329 patients had to be evacuated from 4 to 9 floors, there were 102 children (57 newborns) among them. Nobody got injured.

The fire was extinguished in about ten minutes, and most of the patients were able to return to their wards. The exception is patients who were referred to the fourth floor and transferred to other wards.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, it is probable that it was caused by a short circuit in the faulty equipment belonging to the ventilation unit.
