“Hungary in a bottom view” – such was the food donation in Debrecen

“Hungary in a bottom view” – with this title we received a report from the organizers about the Morzsaparti on Petőfi Square.

The Morzsányi Love Association held its Crumbs Party in Debrecen with food distribution, according to tradition, on the penultimate Saturday of the month.

“Once again, we have seen first-hand that while few are rich in earthly goods, Hungarians are on the verge of being. Despite the cloudy, windy weather, those waiting for food started gathering in Petőfi Square an hour and a half before the start. They came all the time, mostly small retirees, and families with children.

Several also brought food to their family members who remained at home. We even gave a rehearsal at the very end, so our guests will have something to eat on the weekend, their table will not be empty.

By the end of Crumbs, we were serving 200 servings of main food. Thanks to our supporters, we have created a varied menu. The main course was fried chicken legs with rice bison, all loaded with bread, pastries and potatoes. But everyone also got semi-finished, deep-frozen meat. We also thought of the kids, they could have eaten chocolate pudding.

We respectfully thank you for your donations and are very grateful to everyone.

One of the people there said sadly, with teary eyes, that his little money barely runs even the overhead, he is happy to be able to buy bread, milk, and occasionally 4-5 slices of Paris. Once upon a time, he could at least buy chicken back, it is now a luxury for him. Even so, the price is now fixed. He used to eat meat at free meals. Many people said, knowing that there was a virus, but they are much more afraid of starvation because they experience it every day. They do not understand why they are not protected by the Hungarian government, why they feel that being poor in Hungary today is a sin.

They hear the economy is bad, but the prices of basic groceries in the store are rising every week. They don’t understand how this is why inflation is so high when everything is true as public service TV says. They don’t experience it in their daily little lives, as for the same amount of money, less and less gets into the basket. Several said they did not want a football game but wanted to be satisfied at least once a week.

Even now, a lot of families have arrived with children. Most of them are regular guests. We see that families living on the minimum wage, or from public work, are very worn out by the epidemic, they are happy with their modest income if they can eat something every day. They do not know the table of abundance, they are the same every day. They don’t have much joy, children may learn “none” sooner than father and mother. Is it okay that the fate of many Hungarian children will be decided when they are born? Why is a smart, sensible little child punished by society only because it was brought to a poor family by the freshman? We ask you to support all our well-off compatriots and help us with our work.”
