The Guardian published a recording of a drone, illustrating how the Russo-Ukrainian war is taking place a few hundred kilometers away.
The video shows Russian combat vehicles infiltrating the town of Brovary, 35 kilometers from Kyiv, and then being fired upon by Ukrainian forces. The Russian column probably thought the resistance was too intense, so they were forced to turn back.
The Russians deny that a children’s hospital has been attacked.
The Russian air force has not carried out strikes on ground targets in the Mariupol region, Major General Igor Konasenkov, a spokesman for the Russian defense ministry, said on Thursday.
“The Russian Air Force has not carried out any tasks against ground targets near Mariupol,” he said.
He claimed that Wednesday’s alleged “airstrike” against Hospital No. 3 in Mariupol was in fact a “fully-blown provocation” aimed at maintaining an anti-Russian sentiment in the West. He reports that health facilities in Mariupol, including Hospital No. 3, were shut down as early as the end of February, staffing and patients were disrupted by “nationalists”.
Referring to eyewitnesses who had moved out of town, Konasenkov said the hospital had been transformed into a fortress by the Ukrainian Nationalist Battalion in Azov due to its favorable tactical location. He said the exterior and interior damage to the building could not have come from an air bomb because it would have knocked down all the walls.
The general has accused war criminals of being surrounded in the city by committing war crimes, whose “provocations” he said will multiply by tightening the siege ring. He accused the Azov battalion that its members had “deliberately and with particular cruelty destroyed civilians in the Donetsk Basin for eight years”.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described the allegations that the Russian army struck a facility in Mariupol on Wednesday as false at a press conference in Antalya on Thursday. Lavrov said a virtually consistent version of what happened with Konashenko’s, adding that Russia had already informed the UN on Monday that the hospital was in Azov’s hands.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared a video on Twitter on Wednesday showing a ruined hospital in Mariupol with several bullets or bombs in its yard.
“Russian troops attacked a midwife. There are people and children under the ruins, ” Zelensky wrote. According to later Ukrainian reports, seventeen people, including a woman in labor, were injured in the incident, the MTI writes.
