The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office indicted a man who beat his ex-partner and damaged a car while agitated.
The accused and the victim lived in a cohabiting relationship and had a common child. Their cohabitation broke down several years ago, but they kept in touch because of their child, but verbal conflicts were common between them.
Before the crime, the woman moved with her child to her mother’s house in Debrecen but regularly returned to her own house to take care of her dogs. On the 7th of April, 2021, at noon, she left the house but noticed that her ex-partner was following her by car, so she turned back and parked in front of her mother’s house. She wanted to go into the property quickly, trying to open the gate with a key, but then the accused ran over to her and kicked her in the back. The victim went to the yard, then went in against the accused’s will, grabbed the woman’s arm, kicked her in the abdomen, and then punched her in the face. As a result of the abuse, the woman fell to the ground, at which point the accused kicked her several times.
Hearing the victim shout, her mother ran with her dog toward the gate, where the dog jumped on the accused, and then the enraged man ran out into the street. The angry defendant then kicked into the car of the injured woman’s friend several times, causing the fender of the vehicle to dent and deform in several places. The accused caused HUF 60,000 in damage to the injured man, which was not recovered.
The woman suffered a bruising injury to her face that would heal within eight days as a result of the abuse, however, given the manner and persistence of the abuse, the defendant intended to cause the injury to heal beyond eight days. In connection with the vehicle damage, the man’s defiantly anti-communal and violent act was capable of causing outrage and alarm to those who perceived it.
During the investigation conducted by the Debrecen Police Station, the victim’s mother requested that the accused be prosecuted for violating a privacy violation.
The Debrecen District Prosecutor’s Office brought charges against the accused in the Debrecen District Court for attempting to commit a serious bodily injury offense, for violating a private offense, for committing minor damage and for committing an offense. In the indictment for the execution of the sentence, the district prosecutor’s office filed a motion for the district court to sentence the accused to a suspended prison sentence.
