As the summer approaches, the baby boom will continue at the Zoo in Debrecen, where about two months after the first breeding this year, the team of Tsigai sheep has once again grown with a healthy offspring. The lively little jerke spends his time in the petting zoo with fun and lots of play, but also under the care of his mother, where visitors can meet him from birth. She will also be worth a visit at the institution’s Children’s Day Bracelet Weekend now held on Saturdays and Sundays, which will feature a rich program throughout the day.
The Debrecen Zoo considers the preservation of the gene pool of native and long-lived animal species and breeds in Hungary to be a priority, which is why it has kept the Gypsy sheep from the main herd of the Agricultural Science Center of the University of Debrecen since 2016. The cigars of Asia Minor originated in the 18th century. It came to Hungary at the end of the 19th century and spread very quickly, as it was well adapted to the Great Plain, despite its mountainous origins, and in addition to its meat and milk, finer wool than local sheep breeds can also be used well.
The lamp is characterized by a long, drooping ear. There are several color variants, but in Hungary, black-headed and white wool is the most common.
