A cold front arrives over the weekend, which can result in showers and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds in many places, but the heat is not relieved much. In some places, the heat will drop to around 30 degrees, but in many places, peaks above 35 degrees Celsius are still expected, according to the National Meteorological Service’s national medium-term forecast, which was submitted to the MTI on Thursday.

Due to the danger of heat, the meteorological service issued the highest third-degree warning to Budapest and to Pest, Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Hajdú-Bihar, and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties on Friday. In most parts of the country, two counties – Vas and Zala – were issued a first-instance warning for the heat. In addition, a first-instance warning was issued for much of the country due to the risk of thunderstorms.

The forecast wrote that on Friday, July 1, only a few veil clouds would initially interfere with the sunshine. From late afternoon, showers and thunderstorms may occur sporadically to the east of the Danube. In the evening, a cold front arrives, as a result of which the clouds in the western counties increase temporarily, by which time there may be showers and thunderstorms. The wind is getting stronger in Transdanubia, and in some places – and in the vicinity of thunderstorms – it is getting stormy. The lowest temperatures are usually between 17 and 23 degrees, but in cold-sensitive places, the dawn can be a few degrees colder. The highest temperatures are likely between 33 and 39 degrees.

On Saturday, a torn cloud of a wavy front system marches east: in the morning there will be more clouds in the west and then the sky will be revealed; in the eastern counties a stronger cloud is expected from noon. Mostly east of the Danube, showers, and thunderstorms may occur, but in the morning no precipitation can be ruled out in any part of Transdanubia. It is getting stronger in many places, and in the Bakony – and in the vicinity of thunderstorms – the wind is getting stormy. The minimum range is from 16 to 23 degrees and the maximum ranges from 29 to 37 degrees.

Sunday is expected to be sunny. In the mountains, however, there may be showers and thunderstorms. The air will warm from 13-21 degrees in the morning to 31 to 36 degrees in the afternoon – read the forecast.

The national chief medical officer has extended the highest third-degree heat alarm since Monday, originally ordered until Thursday midnight, until midnight next Monday.
