The Hajdú-Bihari Group of the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Association also warns of how reckless the city’s management is.
As we wrote yesterday, chemical mosquito extermination has started in Debrecen, which only kills mosquitoes with minimal efficiency, but is dangerous for all invertebrates and, ultimately, for humans as well.
The Hajdú-Bihari Group of the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Association also presented its position regarding the operation. If not for others, at least let them finally believe that the whole thing is bullshit:
Chemical mosquito control is still taking place in Debrecen. It’s good to know that:
– chemical mosquito control is not selective, so it kills not only mosquitoes but also other insects, e.g. bees
– it mostly affects flying insects (it mainly comes into contact with them), but it is still light when applied, the majority of mosquitoes are still resting on the leaves, so the chemical is not effective
– research has proven that the proportion of mosquitoes among dead insects is 0.01%, i.e. only every thousandth dead insect is a mosquito
– after mosquito control, it is regularly observed that nestlings of bird species (rustic tails, swallows, thrushes, titmice) that nest in settlements die en masse
– can be read in the association’s Facebook post.
