PM Calls Meeting on Energy Emergency, Utility Caps Protection

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán convened a meeting of ministers and energy industry players in parliament on Tuesday, to discuss the energy emergency in the country and protection of the government’s utility caps, the PM’s press chief said.

 

Finance Minister Mihály Varga, Economic Development Minister Márton Nagy and Technology and Industry Minister László Palkovics attended the meeting, with Cabinet Minister Antal Rogán, Gergely Gulyás, the PM’s chief of staff, Szilárd Németh, the commissioner responsible for the utility price cut scheme, State Secretary Gábor Bordás and Gábor Czepek, the CEO of Hungarian electricity provider MVM, being also present. Bertalan Havasi said the meeting touched on the effect of the war in Ukraine and “botched Brussels sanctions” on skyrocketing energy prices. Hungary is the only country to use utility price caps to protect families, and will continue to do so, it was established at the meeting. All households will continue to pay reduced prices up to average consumption, the participants said.
