Android, a band affiliated with the University of Debrecen, will be the backing band for Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett in the Liszt Hall of the Faculty of Music. The band from Debrecen is preparing for the concert with its own songs.
The last time Android gave a successful concert was at the Campus Festival, now another important performance awaits them, as this time they will play in front of one of the most significant pioneers of progressive rock. Android will be the opening band for Steve Hackett and Djabe’s concert on Friday night.
The orchestra’s keyboardist, József Tőzsér, the vice-chancellor responsible for life sciences at the University of Debrecen, told hirek.unideb.hu: they are very much preparing for the performance.
This is the most important challenge for us now. Of course, we are ready for the concert, but we still have some rehearsals in order to give the best possible performance. We have been in contact with Djabé since 2017, five years ago we participated in the same joint production at Lovarda, so this situation is not completely unknown to us. The concert was supposed to be held in August last year, but it had to be postponed due to the epidemic, so we will replace it now. We are facing a very exciting performance
– said József Tőzsér.
Steve Hackett has been making music with Djabe since 2003, since then they have made six releases together. In addition to the joint compositions, several Genesis songs will also be played at the Debrecen stop of The Journey Continues Tour 2022. Android will present its own songs to the audience, they are scheduled to play forty minutes before the main band.
It’s a fantastic thing and a huge honor to be able to play music in front of Steve Hackett and Djabe. We have already completed many outstanding performances, and several important milestones are behind us, and this will be one of them. Steve Hackett is a world-famous musician and a great guitarist. Those who know Genesis know exactly what and how they play, they are an inescapable figure in the history of progressive rock, and now we can be their backing band again,
– added the deputy rector.
Steve Hackett and Djabe will take the stage on Friday, August 19 at 8 p.m., and Android will start at 7 p.m. in the Liszt Hall of the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen.
