The Hungarian Red Cross has provided assistance to 280,000 people coming from Ukraine and staying in the country over the past six months, the organisation said on Wednesday.
Members and volunteers of its rapid response unit, H-HERO, have provided care to 2,074 people in the border region since the outbreak of war in February, it said in a statement. Its Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county chapter has so far supplied more than 300 tonnes of aid worth 270 million forints (EUR 657,000) to its Ukrainian partner organisation in Transcarpathia, it said. The organisation operates facilities to provide long-term shelter to 30-130 people in eight localities, namely Budapest, Dunaújváros, Hódmezővásárhely, Likócs, Makó, Miskolc, Salgótarján and Szeged.
