A seventy-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Fülöp on December 31, 2021, the police said in a statement.
During the investigation, it was found that the woman’s death was caused by the hands of a stranger, as well as that someone deliberately tried to start a fire on the property.
The Hajdú-Bihar criminal prosecutors immediately started investigating the case. They went from house to house and tried to get all the information that could help them identify the perpetrator. Their work brought results within 48 hours. They caught sight of a local resident who could be linked to the commission of the crime. The 38-year-old man was brought to the police headquarters, where he was taken into criminal custody after being questioned as a suspect, and a motion for his arrest was made, which was ordered by the court.
According to the investigation, the suspect knew the elderly woman. He visited her, knocked her down with a lumberjack, took her jewelry, and then, in order to hide the traces, he set fire to the house.
The Criminal Department of the Hajdú-Bihar County Police Headquarters conducted an investigation against him on the basis of the well-founded suspicion of committing the crime of manslaughter committed in advance, out of a desire for profit, with particular cruelty, and to injure a person with limited ability to prevent the crime. The police carried out the necessary procedural actions and sent the documents of the case to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
