It is an important aspiration of the government that the major cities of the Carpathian basin can be reached by plane from Hungary, said the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Monday at the Debrecen airport, at the press conference announcing the flight of the regional airline Aeroexpress. The politician reminded that the Hungarian state took over the majority ownership of the Debrecen airport at the beginning of the year and its goal is to make the region a modern, high-capacity airport that meets the requirements of the 21st century. The government is committed to the development of flights, which is also supported by the European Union, and they will do everything to ensure that the trial period that has just begun, “is not a one-time dream of a few months, but a reality that will stay with us”, he added.

According to Levente Magyar, both the financial and the professional basis exist for the Debrecen airport to become of regional importance.

As part of this series of developments, two new, special airport fire engines were handed over to the airbase on Monday, and the investment was realized with government support.

The parliamentary secretary of state for foreign affairs expressed his conviction that, as a result of the developments, the Debrecen airport will become an international and regional airport capable of handling millions of passengers.

On the occasion of the flight launch, Diána Széles, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen responsible for tourism, and Ferenc Péter, Chairman of the Maros County Council, also spoke about the opportunity that regional flights can represent in the development of business life and tourism in the region.

According to Diána Széles, the Debrecen-Hajdúszoboszló-Hortobágy-Tisza-tó tourist area can be attractive to those coming from Transylvania, while Ferenc Péter drew attention to the fact that Maros County is the fifth most visited region in Romania, and Szováta is one of the popular destinations for Hungarian tourists.

Dániel Somogyi-Tóth, the managing director of Aeroexpress Kft., which operates regional flights, said that Hungarian air transport has developed a lot in the last ten years, there are hundreds of Hungarian-registered planes in Europe, but less attention has been paid to regional transport. Aeroexpress Regional, whose part-owner is BASe Airlines Zrt., which is one hundred percent Hungarian, and two Hungarian private individuals are supposed to fill this gap. BASe has been present on the market for 31 years and has gained significant experience in regional aviation within Europe, he said.

They currently have three Embraer 120 ER turboprop passenger planes, each capable of carrying thirty people. In addition to the existing Finnish regional flights, the new flights will operate on the Budapest-Clojsvár-Debrecen-Marosvásárhely-Debrecen and Debrecen-Clozsvár-Budapest routes in September and October on three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Dániel Somogyi-Tóth said. , co-owner of the airline.
