In the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen, the integrated Surgery Clinic and the integrated Neurology Clinic were established on the first of November, and the Patient Management Center began operating. The heads of the organizational units received their credentials from Zoltán Szabó, the president of the Clinical Center, on Thursday.

We have reached a significant stage in the integration process that began in January 2021. From the first of November, the Surgery Clinic, which has great potential both at the national and international level, and the Neurological Clinic, which is also of major importance at the domestic and international levels, will continue to operate at two sites, the Gyula Campus in Nagerdei and Kenézy, but under unified management and according to unified clinical principles. In addition, the creation of the Patient Management Center is extremely important, which was already very much needed in the Clinical Center, which fulfills a task that significantly crosses county borders and provides care according to the highest level of progressivity

– stressed Professor Zoltán Szabó in his welcome speech.

With 200 beds, three surgical departments, 62 surgeons, 8,000 operations per year and 12 operating theaters, the integrated Surgery Clinic has become the country’s largest fully surgical clinic.

As part of the integration process, the professional construction that began in January 2021 will continue with the involvement of the Gyula Kenézy Campus. We will work according to similar guidelines as on the Nagyerdei Campus, including by creating working groups. The surgical portfolio is also changing, as major oncological surgeries are transferred to the Nagyerdei Campus, which is in line with the national effort to centralize these surgeries (liver, pancreas, stomach) in order to provide high-quality patient care. In addition, we are also planning to create new specialist orders

– explained associate professor Dezső Tóth, director of the integrated Surgery Clinic.

At the Gyula Kenézy Campus of the Surgical Clinic, the professional coordinator duties are performed by Zsolt Kincses, the chief clinical physician. The newly integrated Neurological Clinic will be headed by Professor László Oláh from the first of November.

We would like colleagues working on the Kenézy Campus to participate in stroke care, which is currently only done on the Nagyerdei Campus. In addition, we create opportunities for those working there to take a greater part in medical education and research. In addition, our future goal is to rationalize specialist orders

– listed László Oláh, director of the integrated Neurological Clinic.

The professor’s work is supported by Pálma Piros as a professional coordinator at the Kenézy Gyula Campus of the Neurological Clinic.

The Patient Management Center was also established on the first of November.

The center is a support organization that helps patients access specialist appointments. He takes over the administrative and organizational tasks, relieving the burden of the orders, where they can concentrate only on the healing work. The Patient Management Center operates according to uniform principles, rules and strategy in the Clinical Center

– informed Tibor Tóth, head of the Patient Management Center.

Zoltán Szabó, president of the Clinical Center, handed over the credentials of the new managers at a ceremony held in the Presidential Office on Thursday.
